
Sr. Automation and Orchestration Engineer
Services Required:
The Automation and Orchestration Engineer will be responsible for defining, testing, and implementing autonomous responses to in-scope infrastructure alerts to reduce infrastructure down time, improve speed and accuracy of changes, assist in diagnosis and remediation of infrastructure issues, and reduce manual administrative workload. The successful candidate will provide input into maintaining automation and orchestration design, the required capabilities [skills, tooling, processes, controls, etc.], and an automation technologies implementation roadmap for TS. The candidate will also support an assessment [GAP analysis] of existing orchestration capabilities against requirements and define opportunities to expand orchestration capabilities to other infrastructure disciplines in TS.
The scope of activities will include the following tasks:
- Assist in defining and documenting future state automation and orchestration requirements
- Complete a GAP analysis of existing orchestration tooling, skills, processes and controls and define recommendations to remediate
- Provide recommendations for orchestration tooling requirements, product selection, and implementation support of selected tool(s), as required
- Work directly with monitoring teams to assess first alert and surveillance monitoring services in order to identify specific and actionable opportunities to define autonomous remediation actions
- Define, document, test, and implement autonomous actions for candidate infrastructure alerts. Monitor and confirm that autonomous actions are performing as per design specification
- Automate deployments and data collection tasks to enhance the productivity and validity of the results
- Develop testing platforms to validate proposed infrastructure configuration changes prior to implementation
- Build reports and dashboards to monitor autonomous actions and track/validate expected benefits {e.g. efficiency gains, reduces service downtime, etc.]
- Integrate autonomous actions with existing Service Management tools [e.g. service management tools]
- Document scripting standards with written procedures, processes, diagrams and other technical artifacts
- Work directly with Operations teams to define and implement autonomous actions and identify opportunities to expand automation and orchestration capabilities
- Provide regular orientation and training to Operations teams on automation and orchestration tools, techniques, processes, controls, etc.
- Peer review scripts / configurations and mentor team members
- Work with Operations teams to define and maintain an automation and orchestration capability roadmap informed by industry trends and best practices
- Perform troubleshooting services related to automation and orchestration services both during and outside of normal business hours, as required
- Perform scheduled maintenance work on orchestration tools, as required
- Liaise with TS Operations teams to maintain currency on technical standards, tool sets, and operational practices
Specific Qualifications or Experience Required:
Work Experience:
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a university degree or technical diploma in a program, such as computer technology, plus, and at least eight (8) years of recent experience with monitoring and automation / orchestration tools. In addition, the successful candidate will have the following experience:
- Knowledge / experience with current orchestration frameworks including Python, NETCONF and Git
- Experience implementing autonomous actions to remediate infrastructure alerts [both network and server infrastructure] in an enterprise environment
- Prior experience with centralized infrastructure monitoring and management tools
- Experience with troubleshooting protocols including strong understanding of TCP/IP and DNS
- Exposure to technology disciplines including enterprise / solution architecture and infrastructure maintenance practices desired
- Advanced experience with scripting and configuration automation using Python, MS orchestrator, Netconf, Ansible, or similar tools
- Experience with Cloud based solutions and cloud orchestration an asset
- Self-directed, highly motivated, and results-oriented
- Sound judgment and decision making skills
- Team player with well-developed interpersonal skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office
- Vendor certification and/or equivalent designation is preferred
