Sr. Project Manager / Lead
Services Required:
We are looking for a team manager for our Emergency design team. A joint initiative of Vancouver Coastal Health, the Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care, CST is one of the largest and most complex health-care projects in Canada and the most significant in BC. VCH Coastal’s Lions Gate and Squamish General Hospitals successfully went live on Cerner in April 2018. Over the next few years ~40 other facilities will onboard onto Cerner to improve the safety, quality and consistency of patient care in the province.
This position is responsible for leading efforts related to the design, build, implementation, training, evaluation, testing, maintenance and support of the maternity build using Cerner Millennium. They will be responsible for ensuring that deliverables are completed within assigned timelines and resources, and reflect the requirements articulated by clinicians and providers. The selected individual will need to be an effective team leader, collaborate well with other managers, service providers and stakeholders, and can navigate effectively through our complex environment.
Reporting to the CST Clinical Design Team Director, the team manager inspires a high-functioning, multi-disciplinary team of clinical and technical professionals while fostering a respectful, supportive environment. This person is responsible for ensuring best practices and flexibility for future innovations in care are reflected in the design, testing, integration, and implementation of assigned functionality within the clinical information system with the goal of improving clinical workflows.
Role Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the Emergency build and operational sustainment using Cerner Millennium and its associated build tools
- Understand business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals
- Ensure the Cerner applications are implemented and maintained in line with the agreed strategy to ensure sound healthcare clinical practices
- Oversee activities necessary to implement the module(s) applicable to the department, including the planning and refining of departmental operating policies and procedures in light of automation, training and software testing
- Identify and assist in the resolution of issues that may arise within the department relating to the satisfactory operation of the module(s) both during and after installation
Design:
- Work as part of the design team to develop sound design and standards relative to workflow, vocabulary, content, user interface, and logic
- Design, build and document application changes
- Update and maintain clinic-specific Data Collection Workbooks (DCW’s)
- Document workflow changes
- Complete assigned work plan tasks
- Must be able to lead application design sessions with customer
- Perform data collection required for build
- Perform actual hands on application build and validation
- Mapping current to future state including development of gap analysis and remediation plan
- Ensure the integrity, reliability, consistency and efficiency of integration between the departments relative to the flow of information, clinical work processes and clinical logic
- Work with other technical, business and clinical analysts to address interface and domain overlap issues and conflicts and resolves disputes
Implementation Support:
- Is able to demonstrate the functional capabilities and benefits of the application
- Assists in the implementation of redesigned processes
Testing and Validation:
- Participates as a project team lead/member in the testing efforts, including test scenario development, execution of test scripts, and documentation of results
- Participates in integrated testing
- Provide application workflow/integration training and super user training in preparation for integrated testing
- Performs and documents scripted software validation to ensure patient safety prior to and following-production activities
Training:
- Trains less experienced team members to fill knowledge gaps
- Assesses and documents training needs for end users
- Assists in the development of training plans, training materials, and execution of a training strategy for end user training
Go-Live Support:
- Interfacing with end users to provide application assistance
- Ability to be on site for an extended period of time to support go live
- Provide after hours support of clinical applications as required
Post-Live Support:
- Provide post-live application support
- Performs system adaptations and modifications according to approved specifications
- Coordinates the resolution of user calls and determines the appropriate action by investigating and analyzing reported hardware and software problems
Documentation:
- Provide comprehensive documentation (WORD, EXCEL, MPP, PowerPoint, Visio) including:
- Design (workflows, reports of findings)
- Build (dictionaries, screens, functionality)
- Test script development; gap analysis; training materials and workflow
Specific Qualifications or Experience Required:
- Current practicing registration with a nursing professional organization (such as the College of Registered Nurses’ of British Columbia (CRNBC))
- Candidates should have a thorough understanding of emergency / trauma workflows and related systems with recent hands on experience in the build and implementation of Cerner
- Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of both front and back end Cerner Millennium FirstNet and PowerChart tools
- Build and maintenance experience with Cerner Millennium is preferred
- Demonstrated supervision, leadership and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated Project Management skills
- Demonstrated experience leading a team and fostering a respectful, motivating and supportive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to represent your clinical specialty and across the continuum of care
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical practice and work flows in other health care settings preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lean or related process improvement principles
- Proven ability to engage and coordinate activities within a work setting
- Proven ability to generate required outcomes from initiatives with specific purpose
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict effectively
